Quality Education
Old Dominion's reputation for quality education extends back to 1930, when it opened its doors in Norfolk, Va., as a division of the College of William and Mary. Today, Old Dominion is one of few public universities with a Carnegie Foundation "Doctoral/Research Universities-Extensive" distinction. Our professors create knowledge, as well as share it.
Attesting to the quality of its programs, Old Dominion University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Ga. 30033-4097; telephone number 404.679.4501) to award baccalaureate, master's, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. In addition, numerous programs of study at the University are individually accredited by specialized agencies recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
Convenient Courses
Offering day, evening and weekend and online classes, Old Dominion enables students to continue their education and still meet the demands of family and work. Through partnerships with community colleges, military bases, and the establishment of higher education centers, Old Dominion has 50 extended campuses across the country and on Navy vessels deployed around the world.
Multiple Delivery Modes
Old Dominion is a renowned leader in distance learning. The University has achieved great success and exceeded growth projections since introducing its satellite delivery network, TELETECHNET, in 1994. Old Dominion has expanded course delivery modes, using two-way video, the Internet, CD-ROM, and streaming video, to provide flexibility and to extend higher education opportunities to students in Virginia and beyond.
Personalized Attention
At all site locations, Old Dominion representatives provide students with face-to-face, one-on-one guidance. For students taking courses independently, the Office of Distance Learning provides the same services, tailored to meet individual requirements.
