Financial Aid
Students participating at a distance qualify for financial aid if they meet the following criteria:
- Are admitted and enrolled as a degree-seeking student.
- Are enrolled at least half-time (6 semester credit hours for undergraduate or 4 semester credit hours for graduate)--for Federal Direct Student Loans eligibility. NOTE that credits enrolled in at the community college may count towards the minimum credit hour requirements as long as your site director, Military Distance Learning contact, or other campus representative agrees that the credit(s) are needed for your degree program.
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- Be registered with Selective Service, if required.
- Have no outstanding debts involving financial aid previously received at Old Dominion University or any other post-secondary institution.
- Not be in default on any post-secondary educational loan.
To get started, students applying for financial assistance for the academic year Fall/Spring and Summer must submit the following documents:
- A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the U.S. Department of Education. A student need not be admitted to a university to apply for aid, but must be admitted to receive a financial aid notification/award letter.
- Other documentation as requested to verify Financial Aid eligibility.
Because additional documentation is required for undergraduate students who are participating at a distance and applying for financial aid, we recommend that you make an appointment (by phone or in person) with your site director, Military Distance Learning contact, or other campus representative who can outline the entire process. Additional information can also be found at the Financial Aid web site.
