Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology
Mechanical Engineering Technology Major
Nuclear Engineering Technology Option
This program is designed specifically for graduates of the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School. Eligible rates are EM (NUC), ET (NUC), and MM (NUC). These students receive considerable credits that apply to the BSET degree based on their professional education in nuclear power systems.
The Mechanical Engineering Technology program is accredited by TAC of ABET. Students take courses in areas such as computer-aided drafting, statics, strength of materials, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, automation and controls, and computer solid modeling. The program culminates in a senior project that integrates course work with a practical project assignment in the student's area of interest. To satisfy the upper-division general education requirements, students are encouraged to complete a minor in Engineering Management. It is the only minor that is available in a CD ROM format. Students in Mechanical Engineering Technology are prepared for a range of technical positions including system design, fabrication, manufacturing, HVAC (heating, ventilating and air conditioning), and construction.

All upper-division major and minor courses are offered through satellite delivery at TELETECHNET sites in Virginia, Arizona, Washington, and Georgia. In addition, these courses are offered by video stream, accessible from any location with high-speed internet access. Old Dominion University does not offer lower division courses through distance education. For information on testing and transfer course options to meet those requirements, please view the advising section under Student Services. Several courses in the program are also available in a CD-ROM format.
