Advising
Dr. Rob Curry is the Director of Advising for military distance learning students. Feel free to contact him at rcurry@odu.edu or (800) 968-2638 with questions related to enrolling in the General Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, or Mechanical Engineering Technology degree programs. He is based on the main campus in Norfolk, VA, so most students will communicate with him through email or phone.
Old Dominion University personnel are located at various Field Office Locations. If you are based in one of these areas, a staff member can provide advising services in person.
Prospective students should contact an advisor with any questions regarding eligibility for the desired program or the application process. Current students will also need to maintain regular contact with an ODU advisor for academic planning throughout their programs. A student's advisor will vary depending on his or her academic major.
On curriculum sheets for the degree programs, general education requirements are often identified by a category such as "social science" or its abbreviation "S". For a list of courses within these categories view the "Requirements for Undergraduate Degrees" section of the Old Dominion University Catalog. The catalog is also a valuable reference for academic policies and procedures.
Earning Credit For Lower Level Courses
Old Dominion University has a great tool to assist in the transfer process. Monarch Transfermation lists equivalencies for all courses that have transferred to ODU from any U. S. college or university. For courses that are not in Monarch Transfermation, please check with an Old Dominion University advisor to confirm that a course is equivalent to the ODU requirement.
Credit for many lower level requirements can be met through CLEP and DANTES tests. Lists of the specific tests for which Old Dominion awards credit are available at Testing Center.
