Center for Learning Technologies

An instructional technologist assisting facultyThe Center for Learning Technology (CLT) develops customized content in a variety of formats for a wide range of projects and audiences in order to best meet the objectives of the client.Using proven instructional design techniques and effective training methods, technology -transfer and educational goals are achieved quickly and cost effectively. CLT capabilities are enhanced by access to world-class content creators and use of the rich technological resources of ATS including video, graphics and multimedia production.

CLT services include the development of: online courses and traditional training programs, multimedia formats including CD-ROM, DVD and videotape, web services, design and video streaming, collateral training materials, testing and evaluation modules, specialized professional development, advanced coursework accreditation, as well as lab training and certification of commercial software applications.

Whether designing for the classroom or for alternative learning environments, or, repurposing existing content or creating new content, CLT's team of instructional, graphic and multimedia designers can develop quality, customized products that will exceed your expectations.

Obtaining Instructional Advice

  • conduct needs assessment

Instructional Design Group

The instructional design group is staffed by instructional designers, instructional technology specialists, and a pool of talented students who assist faculty and their teaching assistants with obtaining instructional assistance, using technology.

Multimedia Production

This unit is a complete multimedia development facility with full non-linear video/audio production systems, PC and Macintosh multimedia suites, DVD/CD production and duplication systems, and a professional design staff. Staff members are recognized for expertise with streaming media and online courseware production, and can develop faculty material for worldwide delivery over the Internet.

Contact us if you need assistance with capturing and editing video and audio, converting your VHS tapes to DVD, and integrating all your course materials into one seamless, professional production delivered on the Internet, CD, and/or DVD. We are also your source for live and archive streaming media, and can record your course lectures and conference presentations in our digital studio.

Multimedia Duplication and Viewing

Multimedia Duplication and Viewing offers audio and video duplication services to Old Dominion University students, faculty, and staff. Viewing services are also available for Old Dominion University faculty and students.

Faculty Development Lab

Faculty members participating in a workshopThe Faculty Development Lab hosts many of the technology workshops conducted by the Center for Learning Technologies. Some of the workshop titles are:

Faculty Multimedia Development Lab

The Faculty Multimedia Development Lab provides a service to all faculty for developing and digitizing course materials. We provide services for digitizing materials such as 35mm slides, film negatives, photographs, audio, video, and printed material. In addition, we provide assistance in PowerPoint, web site design, and multimedia editing. A walk-in service is available for those who want to do it themselves, and a drop-off service is offered for larger jobs.

Scanning 35mm slidesThe following types of media conversions are available as a walk-in service for those who want to do it themselves or a drop-off service if needed. Please call in advance to schedule an appointment for submitting drop-off service. Turnaround time varies based on project needs and current workload.
